Request Content Removal from google search
Google is introducing several new updates to its Search platform with a focus on enhancing user control over personal information, privacy, and online safety. The company has announced the following changes:
-
Improved Removal of Personal Information: Google is launching a new dashboard that informs users if their contact information is appearing in Search results. This dashboard expands on the "Results about you" tool introduced last year. It allows users to easily request the removal of search results that display their phone number, home address, or email. This feature is accessible through the Google app by clicking on your Google account photo and selecting "Results about you." Initially available in the U.S. in English, Google plans to extend it to more regions and languages soon.
-
Enhanced Safeguard Against Explicit Content: Google has updated its policies regarding explicit imagery in Search results. Now, explicit content, such as adult or graphic violent material, will be blurred by default in Search results. This new SafeSearch blurring feature will roll out globally for all users this month. Users have the option to adjust this setting or disable it, unless it's locked by a guardian or school network administrator.
-
Easier Access to Parental Controls: Google is simplifying the process of finding parental controls directly within the Search platform. Users can discover these controls by typing relevant queries like "Google parental controls" or "Google Family Link." Search will display a box with information on how to manage parental controls.
-
Removal of Self-Uploaded Explicit Content: Google is expanding its policies to allow users to remove explicit content they have personally uploaded to websites. This feature complements existing policies for removing non-consensual explicit imagery from Search. Users can request the removal of their personal explicit images if they no longer wish for them to be visible in Search. This does not apply to content that is currently being monetized.
It's important to note that removing content from Google Search does not erase it from the wider internet or other search engines. However, these updates aim to give users more control over their private information as it appears in Google Search results.
